I revived the Sherrod Library's digital signage presence which had fallen victim to years of neglect and was no longer in working order. After a one-on-one training session in Denver from software engineers at Four Winds Interactive, the nation's foremost digital signage company, I was thoroughly prepared to rescue the defunct signage. This signage now requires less maintenance as I was able to tie the sign content into the website's content management system. Sections of the sign such as News and Events are now fed directly to the signage from the website, meaning the content only needs to be updated once in order to be pushed to the main website, the sign, and a subscription feed.
I also lead a working group to further revitalize library signage, including self-service room scheduling. We are actively looking for ways to improve our digital signage presence and cut down on the expenses of paper signs. We are awaiting the results of a proposal to give students the ability to schedule study rooms integrated with small tablets outside each room, as shown in the banner on this page. I implemented this solution for meeting rooms around the library, and now wish to extend this functionality to students as well.
